Happy Monday! 

Below are some season updates and reminders as we begin our competition season. 

Practices:

Practice times and locations are changing due to changes in pool availability. I have updated the Practices Pages to reflect the changes and linked a calendar to help parents/swimmers plan for future changes. For now, the main change is location, all of our practices for the next couple of weeks will be at SAC. 

Meets: 

We have our first meet this week! We have a combined MS/HS meet against Hardin Valley on Sunday, October 25th. Warm-ups will begin at 5:00 pm with planned start time of 6:00 pm. I will send another update with exact warm-up times when they are decided. 

We will follow the combined high-school/middle-school event order. Diving will take place Friday through the diving program, with those results included in the meet scores.

Meet RSVP & Job Sign ups

• I have opened athlete sign-up so all athletes can RSVP. Please choose either Attending or Not Attending by noon on Saturday. Do not leave the status as "undecided".  Marking “Not Attending” is just as helpful as marking “Attending” so I can build our lineup.
• I will open Job Sign-ups when I know what roles need to be filled. We are not the host team so we can plan to provide the following positions unless additional gaps need to be filled. A description of each job and the certification requirements can be found below the "how to sign up" section. 

1. Lane timers for visiting-team lanes (4 lanes)
2. Stroke/turn x1
3. Finish judge
4. Relay takeoff judge
5. Computer entry/scoring for our team

How to Sign Up

Log in to our team website using the login button in the upper right corner. If you cannot remember your password, click “Forgot your password” to reset it.

Under Calendars, select Signup Calendar and find the October 25 meet.

Swimmer Signup

1. Click the green MEET ENTRY tab.
2. Click Edit under your athletes’ names.
3. For each athlete, select Attending or Not Attending from the dropdown menu. Please do not leave it as “undeclared.”
4. Click Save to record your choices.

This lets me know who is available; I will put together the event lineup.

Job Signup

1. Click the green JOB SIGNUP tab.
2. Select an available volunteer position. One parent can sign up both parents—scroll down to see the other parent listed.
3. Click Save Assignments.
4. Click Back to Signup Calendar.

If neither parent will be at the meet, skip to swimmer signup.

Volunteer Jobs

We need parent help to run the meet! Most jobs do not require previous experience, and we will explain what to do before racing starts.

• Timer: Use a stopwatch to time swimmers in an assigned lane and record their times.
• Head Timer: Coordinate lane timers and operate backup stopwatches in case a timer misses a start or has a watch problem. Timing experience is helpful.
• Finish Judge: Watch scoring heats and record the order swimmers finish by lane number.
• Relay Takeoff Judge: Watch assigned relay exchanges and record whether swimmers leave before their teammates touch the wall. Instructions will be provided.
• Runner: Collect timer sheets and deliver them to the scoring table. This job involves walking around the pool deck.
• Sorter: Organize timer sheets by event, heat, and lane for the results workers.
• Computer Results: Enter Webb times and results into SwimTopia on the team computer. Attention to detail and comfort using a computer are helpful.
• Referee: Oversee the competition and officials. KISL referee certification required.
• Starter: Work with the referee to start each race. KISL starter certification required.
• Stroke & Turn Official: Observe strokes, turns, and finishes and report rule violations to the referee. KISL Stroke & Turn certification required

Other Updates: 

We have an assistant coach! Nicole Webb will be our assistant coach this season. She comes from a swimmer/swim lesson background and is a fellow BHS parent and employee. I am extremely excited to have another coach on deck to help us move forward this season. 

I will be ordering out shirts and opening up our team shop this week so athletes, parents, and siblings can order any additional BHS Swim apparel and/or equipment desired. Ordering will be through BSN this year. I will post links when the rep opens the shop on his end.
